This is not a list of every reservable activity in every NPS unit. It answers the general vehicle/timed-entry question for six parks whose systems changed for 2026 or commonly confuse travelers.
Rocky Mountain: two reservation products
Timed Entry, excluding Bear Lake Road
Required to enter most park areas between 9am and 2pm MDT, May 22 through October 12, 2026. It covers Trail Ridge Road and areas outside the Bear Lake Road Corridor. Arrive before 9am or after 2pm to enter most areas without timed entry, while still paying the entrance fee or showing a pass.
Timed Entry + Bear Lake Road
Required for the Bear Lake Road Corridor between 5am and 6pm MDT, May 22 through October 18, 2026. This product also includes the rest of the park. Without it, Bear Lake Road access is available before 5am or after 6pm, subject to conditions.
Both products use two-hour entry windows. NPS says there is no fixed departure time after entry, but Bear Lake Road re-entry has a special restriction: after leaving the corridor, re-entry is only allowed after 2pm.

NPS also releases 40% of daily availability at 7pm MDT the night before. Reservations are first-come, first-served, non-transferable and non-refundable. One reservation is required per vehicle per day, and the named holder must be present with photo ID. A reservation does not guarantee a parking space.
Acadia: Cadillac Summit Road only
Acadia requires a vehicle reservation to drive Cadillac Summit Road from May 20 through October 25, 2026. It is not a park-wide timed-entry system.
The 2026 release pattern is:
- 30% of sunrise and daytime reservations at 10am ET, 90 days ahead;
- 70% at 10am ET, two days ahead.
NPS lists the vehicle reservation at $6. It is per vehicle, not per person; does not assign parking; does not permit re-entry; and is separate from the park entrance pass. Visitors arriving by foot, bike or taxi do not need the Cadillac vehicle reservation.
Yosemite: no entrance reservation in 2026
Yosemite announced it would not use a timed entrance reservation system in 2026, including peak summer and the firefall period. The entrance fee still applies.
Don't translate that into "nothing needs booking." Lodging and camping are highly constrained, wilderness permits are required for overnight hiking, and Half Dome permits are required when the cables are up.
Without general entrance reservations, NPS may use temporary traffic diversions when parking reaches capacity. Arriving with no reservation does not guarantee immediate access to a particular valley parking area.
Arches: no advanced timed entry in 2026
Arches says advanced timed-entry reservations are not required in 2026 and visitors may enter during operating hours. Vehicles may be diverted when congestion becomes unsafe or parking fills.
Reservations still apply to Devils Garden Campground and Fiery Furnace activities. Old 2025 advice specifying an entry window is stale for 2026.
Mount Rainier: no timed entry anywhere
Mount Rainier's February 25, 2026 announcement says no portion of the park will use timed entry in 2026. NPS recommends visiting before 7am or after 4pm, considering weekdays and keeping an alternative destination in mind.
Camping, lodging, climbing, wilderness and commercial or special-use permissions are separate. Current fires and road closures can matter more than the annual reservation rule, so check alerts before you go.
Glacier: no vehicle reservation, new targeted controls
Glacier says vehicle reservations are not required anywhere in 2026; a change from the 2021–2025 systems.
The park instead uses a ticketed-only shuttle system and, beginning July 1 weather permitting, three-hour timed parking at Logan Pass. Temporary vehicle diversions may occur when areas become congested. A service reservation may affect access during a diversion but does not create a general vehicle-reservation requirement.

Bring the correct combination. A national parks annual pass does not automatically include a timed reservation, and a timed reservation does not replace an entrance fee.
International visitor fee caveat
NPS's 2026 pass page states that non-U.S. residents aged 16 and older face an additional $100 per-person fee at 11 listed parks, including Rocky Mountain, Yosemite and Glacier, unless admitted with an eligible Annual or America the Beautiful Pass. NPS lists a nonresident annual pass at $250. Check the current official fee page and calculate for your party; this is separate from the timed-entry fee.
Booking decision rules
- Identify the exact place: whole park, corridor, summit road, shuttle or trail.
- Identify arrival date and local time zone.
- Check the official park page, not last year's blog post.
- Set both advance and last-release reminders.
- Book only through the official linked Recreation.gov listing.
- Save confirmation offline and bring named-holder ID.
- Buy the separate entrance pass if required.
- Check alerts within 24 hours of travel.
If reservations are sold out
- Rocky Mountain: target the official night-before release, or enter outside reservation hours.
- Acadia Cadillac: target the two-days-ahead inventory; otherwise visit another area or reach Cadillac without a private vehicle where lawful and practical.
- No-reservation parks: arrive at lower-demand hours and maintain a backup area; capacity diversions may still block a preferred road or lot.
Never buy a reservation from an unofficial reseller. Rocky Mountain reservations are non-transferable.
